What is the Youth Friendly Business program?
The Youth Friendly Business Recognition Program (YFB) recognizes, promotes, and expresses gratitude to businesses in Sonoma County identified as providing outstanding customer service towards youth and young adults under age 25, and for helping them in the community.
The program honors businesses that:
1) Treat youth customers with respect
2) Support community/school activities for youth and/or
3) Hire and prepare youth for future careers
Businesses must demonstrate excellence in at least one of the three criteria to receive the designation.
How do I nominate a business?
Nominations are accepted year round and can be made by any community member for any business. Businesses receiving two or more nominations (including one from someone under age 25) are eligible for the Youth Friendly designation.
Nominations may be completed via electronic or hard copy form. The form asks nominators to identify youth friendly characteristics and provide examples. The YFB Committee meets quarterly to review nominations and make Youth Friendly designations. If additional information is needed to make a determination, YFB Committee members contact business nominees.
How are businesses recognized?
Youth Friendly businesses receive a certificate and window decal, and are listed on the Sonoma County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) website. Also, each year the YFB Committee recommends one designated business as its Youth Friendly Business of the Year to the WIB. Awardees are acknowledged on the WIB’s website, recognized at a WIB meeting, and receive a gold resolution from the Board of Supervisors honoring their commitment to youth.
